Clifford Frondel, a mineralogist, began his association with Harvard University as a research associate in 1939; he became an associate professor in 1946, and was a professor from 1954 to 1977. He also served as chairman of the Department of Geological Sciences from 1965-1969. His areas of research are: descriptive mineralogy, crystal synthesis, and lunar geochemistry .
